Do you want to create long term income using the internet? Have you started build a database of contacts that you can market and sell to over and over again? Do you know that this could be one of the most powerful steps you can put in place in setting up your online business.
If I could give you a simple example of how a strong database or list of contacts, interested in your products or services, can give you a great income. If you had a database of 1000 people, that you have legally acquired over time (and I will go into some steps to develop a list shortly). Let us assume you have found a great affiliate product that you feel would be a great match to your list. It is a $97.00 product that you make 40% commission on. If you sent out an email to your 1000 contact list, here is what could be made:
List = 1000 (email send)
Assuming a slightly higher purchase percentage, because your list would be very interested in this product = 10%
No. of Sales = 100
Total Sales = 100*$97 = $9700 (wow – not bad from one email to 1000 people right?)
Your commission income = $3880
So, you have just made nearly $4K from one email, all because you had a strong list. And you didn’t even create the product or sales letter to make the sales – imagine it was your own product or service, your income would have been the full $9700 – that is more than what most people in Australia make in a year! Neat hey!
“Now how do I develop a list?” Well, there are several options, but the easiest is to offer something of value to your market for free or a very low cost. Here are some examples, which will obviously vary depending on your business and website.
- Offer a free ebook covering a topic of value to your market
- Offer a great quality interview that you have done with an expert in your industry
- Offer an online how to video relate can really help your market
- A report on the latest trends in your industry
The idea behind doing this is make this offer of a free resource, in return for the person entering some basic information on an basic opt-in box. Generally, for online businesses, you only really need a name and email address. Once the person have given you this, then provide them with the thank you page containing the link to your free resource.
There are some great resources that you can use to help you manage your list, as well give you simple code to implement on your websites to allow for opt-ins to your database. I use WorldInternetOffice, but others are Vertical Response. These programs also make it easier to send emails to your contacts via bulk email.
HOT TIP : Are you capturing the details of the people that buy your products or services. If you are not, this is a great place to start to look at building your list. If a person has brought from you or your business, then they are more likely to buy from you again, and will cost you less to market to them in the future than trying to get someone new to buy your product or service.
