Here is a great way to quickly and easily create an information product or a range of information products, that you can start selling online immediately.
This little secret involves something called “Public Domain”.
What is public domain, you ask?
Well, books and publications that were written many years ago, and fall outside of copyright restrictions, become public domain. This basically just means that the copyright in the United States for that particular publication has expired. Which means that you can use them, modify them and in our case resell them.
There is a site that you can go to, to find public domain books, that you can download, modify slightly and then create into an ebook.
This resource is called “Project Gutenberg”
Here, you can download text versions of a whole range of “public domain” titles. Things like Think and Grow Rich, classics like Pride and Prejudice or the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. There are whole categories of ebooks that you can search through particular to your niche market. You could also reference the Top 100 to see what other people are downloading. This may give you a good indication that other people out there want this ebook and there may be a opportunity to sell it in ebook format to those that don’t know about Project Gutenberg.
A Project Gutenberg ebook is made out of two parts: the public domain book and the non public domain Project Gutenberg trademark and license. If you strip the Project Gutenberg license and all references to Project Gutenberg from the ebook, you are left with a public domain ebook.
You can do anything you want with that. I would suggest make a few changes to the ebook. For example, you could write a foreword on why you like this particular title. You can then convert the text into PDF format to sell as an ebook using software like CutePDF. Or you could include the Ebook as a Bonus with other products you are offering, that way increasing the value to your customer and possibly getting you more sales.
Example: If you are in the real estate agent niche, you could download Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. You can add a foreword written by you, that talks about real estate and how this book can help become a more successful real estate agent. Then you can have a custom cover designed “Think and Grow Rich. For Real Estate Agents. By Napoleon Hill, Foreword by……… (insert your name).
And there you have it, a hot selling product that you can sell and keep all the profits. Or add as bonuses to current sales. And it took hardly any work from you to create the product.
