• Have you been wondering how to expand the lists of keywords that you have your advertising on Google Adwords or any other paid search network appears on?  Well, today, I want to show you a cool little addition to the Google Keyword Tool that will not only help with this, but also help you spy on your competitors, as well as help you with your SEO on your site.

Google has added a website content option to the existing keyword tool.  You can check it out right here - Google Keyword Tool.  I have provided an image to make this clear as to what exactly I am referring to, but basically I have explained the different ways you can use this in the section below the image.

    1.  Keyword research for your PPC campaigns:  Here is a great way to expand the list of keywords you use on your PPC campaigns.  Basically, this website content section of this tool allows you to see what keywords Google recognises a particular site for – that is on the free side or natural side of Google search results.  That means, if you type in your own website address, you will notice keywords that possibly your site might rank well for currently, or at a minimum, this is the list of keywords that Google recognises from the content on your site currently.  So, what you could do then, is in put a competitors website address and find out what keywords their site is being recognised for on Google.  You could then review these keywords and phrases and use these to expand your paid search advertising, targeting your ads specific to your website.  These don’t just need to be setup on Google Adwords, but also Yahoo Search Marketing and MSN.

Note : This is also a great strategy for expanding your keyword list for affiliate programs that you might be promoting on PPC.  Basically put in the affiliates site into the website content address and see what keywords come up.

    2. Find out the keywords that your site is found for by Google - Outside of using this tool to understand what your competitor sites are being found for by Google and using this to your advantage, you could also make sure that your site is being correctly identified with the keywords you are using on your site content.  If there are keywords in there that do not relate to your website market, then you may need to take a closer look at what content, H1 titles, and linked keywords you are targeting across your site.  This leads to the third point, which relates to SEO.
    3. Search Engine Optimisation – These results can also be used to strongly support your SEO efforts on your site.  If you notice that your site is not really being identified by Google on a particular keyword(s), then you can obviously start to develop content and linking around that keyword or phrase to start delivering SEO results around that particular keyword.  REmember too, that you can use keyword density measurement across pages on your site, to help you to really focus on your SEO efforts for particular keywords or phrases across your site content.

A bit of a catch on the use of this funcationality in the keyword tool.  You may have already seen the Google Keyword tool and used it to do keyword research for your market.  Currently, if you use Internet Explorer, for some reason, the website content option of this tool will not display (well, it didn’t for me anyway).  I had to download a version of Google Chrome which is Google’s internet browser, before I could get the website content tool area to appear.  Try this yourself and if it works, great, but if not, you might need to get a copy of Google Chrome.

Primarily, this can be a great tool to help expand your paid search keyword lists.  So check it out and let me know what you think by leaving a reply comment.

Until next time – hope that helps with your internet marketing!

  • Like so many people that have a website or an online presence for your business, you want your website to rank on the first page of Google for the keywords you think people will be searching to find businesses or websites like yours.

Now, although this is entirely possible for your website, it does take some time and working with a specialist in what is called Search Engine Optimisation, to get your page to start appearing on the first page of the popular search engines, particularly if it is not an established website.  Today, I would like to show you an easier way, so that you can get traffic to your website in the next few days (if not hours).

What am I talking about?  Well, search engines like Google and Yahoo, allow businesses and websites to advertise with them.  If you have ever searched for anything on Google or Yahoo, you would have noticed that there are links that you can visit in the left hand section of the page – also called the natural search results, or the free side of Google.  And there are links on the right hand side.  The links on the right hand side are sponsored links or paid advertising, which means someone has paid to advertise there.

As an example, do a search in Google for “bass fishing”.  You will notice that there are links on the right under the Sponsored Links area.  Basically, a business or website owner is paying for this little text advert with their link, to appear.

The beauty of this sort of advertising, is that you can set up an advert for your business and only have it appear when a person uses the keywords that you define, to search on Google or Yahoo.  That means that the advert is targeted to your target market.

Your advert will then appear for the keywords that you are prepared to pay to advertise against. You can then link these adverts through to your website, so that if anyone clicks on your advert, they go straight to your website.

This advertising system for Google is called Google Adwords (http://adwords.google.com).  It has become a very popular way for advertising on the internet – in fact you may have heard of Google adwords or even be currently running Adwords campaigns for your business.

The great thing about this sort of advertising, is that it is pay-per-click advertising (PPC for short).  That means you can put your advert up to appear only when a person types in a particular search keyword.  You only pay Google a pre-defined cost only when someone clicks on your advert.   This can be as little as $0.10 a click.  So imagine if you had 1000 clicks on your advert over a period of a month, that would only cost you $100.00 – That is $100 to effectively have 1000 people walk into your shop front (website). Cheap advertising if you ask me!

And you can even have multiple adverts running at one time, each being displayed in a sequence.  You can then determine which advert works best, and keep just running that advert.

“But what if I am only a local business?” I hear you ask?  Well, the Google Adwords system is very powerful.  You can actually nominate the locations where you want your ads to appear, right down to the suburb level in a particular state.

What do I mean by this?  Well, basically Google through some very smart technology knows where the person that is searching is based.  So for example, if a person is searching for “bass fishing” and they are in Sydney, and you only service the greater Sydney market, your advert will only appear for people searching in that area.  If a person in Canada searched on the same keyword, your ad would not appear.  Pretty amazing stuff wouldn’t you say!

This is a great way to get targeted traffic to your website and you can literally setup an account today and have traffic tomorrow.

    To your success!
